Seeds: The first presidential debate of the 2016 election cycle took place on September 26. The debate was filled with flying insults and questionable “facts”. The second debate of the election took place last night (Sunday, October 9) and was, well, not very different from the first.
Core: Last night, the two presidential candidates met once again at Washington University in St. Louis to duke it out on the national stage. This debate was slightly different from the first, with questions coming directly from the American people instead of journalists. Despite this difference, the debate was filled with as much mud-slinging as ever. However, this was to be expected after the recent discovery of a tape in which Trump makes lewd comments about women that suggest his involvement in sexual harassment.
Skin: As expected, the debate was covered widely on both the news and social media. Specifically, people on Twitter and Facebook have fallen in love with Ken Bone, an undecided voter who asked a question about energy during the debate and was seen taking pictures with a disposable camera after the debate had finished.
Leaves: In the aftermath of both the debate and the release of the Trump tapes, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan announced today that he would no longer be defending the actions of Mr. Trump and would begin focusing his efforts toward maintaining the Republican majority in the House and the Senate. However, Speaker Ryan has yet to renounce his endorsement of Trump.
Food For Thought: Who do you think “won” the debate? Do you think the candidates should focus more on the issues instead of each other?
