Seeds: After the arrival of over 1 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon, the country has struggled (The country only had a little over 4 million people to begin with…). The country not had a Head of State since 2014 because of divides over how to deal with this conflict; this crisis only cemented the already existing religious ties amongst government members as well.
Core: The Lebanese parliament just elected Michel Aoun, an 81-year-old Maronite Christian, to be the President, ending a two year period of political discord.
Leaves: For the sake of the refugees and citizens in Lebanon, one can only hope that Aoun maintains stability in the region, especially with the influx of refugees.
Food For Thought: Do you think that other countries need to help with Syrian refugees? Do you think that the new president will be a positive addition?
