Seeds: The United Nations (UN) is an international organization founded after World War II to try and encourage peace and communication between countries. There are currently 193 countries that are members, and the group works to provide international relief, discuss international security threats, settle international legal disputes, launch peacekeeping missions, and fund international programs of many kinds (many have to do with protecting human rights).
Core: The organization has been deliberating about who will be the Secretary-General of the UN next for months (the person who basically is the head of the UN). The Security Council has taken a poll, and has decided upon former Prime Minister António Guterres of Portugal. The official votes will take place on Thursday, though the decision almost always goes in favor with what the Security Council polls.
Skin: Both the Russian, American, and British delegations all agreed upon the selection of Guterres, which is a clear sign of international cooperation and proves his reputable status amongst world leaders.
Leaves: With international terrorism, a refugee crisis, many countries wracked with civil war, and many other issues, there is no doubt that Guterres will have his hands full.
Food For Thought: What do you think of the UN? Do you think that Guterres is a good fit or would you liked to have seen a woman or someone from a less represented region?
