Seeds: This year’s Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, PA is truly one for the record books. Every year, the Democratic National Committee comes together to decide on its nominee for president of the United States. This year, for the first time in American history, the nominee is a woman, Hillary Clinton. For live stream of speeches and talks, go here.
Core: While this year’s convention is flooded with excitement over the magnitude of this moment in American history, it is equally imbued with disunity. Some Bernie Sanders’ supporters stormed the convention demanding “Bernie or Bust” suggesting that they either would not vote at all or would vote Republican come November if Sanders did not win the nomination. Also, Wikileaks released nearly 20,000 emails (really, can the Democratic party really handle any more email scandals) from DNC officials wherein they made some very remarks that revealed their bias toward Hillary Clinton in the primaries (they were supposed to remain impartial between the two candidates, Clinton and Sanders), which ultimately led to the resignation of the then chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Skin: Many U.S. Intelligence agencies believe that the Russian government is behind the DNC email hack, some individuals stating that it could be intentional interference with the election cycle. Also, Donald Trump has inspired even more controversy around the subject when he stated "Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing, I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press,” a mere two days after the DNC hack.
Food For Thought: Who would you vote for in the election in November? What do you think about the email scandals? How do you feel about Donald Trump’s recent remarks?
